Why It Takes Courage To Be Your Best

To see what is right and not do it is a lack of courage

It's one thing to know what's right and wrong. It's another to do what is right and not do what is wrong.

But knowing something is wrong, or doing something because it's right, isn't always enough to change your behavior. After all, we know that eating cake isn't as good for us as eating an apple. But sometimes we eat cake anyway. We know we shouldn't be mean to people, but sometimes we're mean anyway. Why? Because we don't always have the courage to do what we know is right and avoid doing what we know is wrong.

Doing the right thing takes courage. And courage isn't just about being strong in the face of danger: courage can also mean taking a risk when you're afraid. Courage can mean standing up for yourself when you're scared that someone else might be angry at you for it. Courage can even mean doing something for other people when you're so tired that it would be easy to put it off until tomorrow—but you decide to do it today because you know it will help them feel better, even if it makes your own day harder.

I know it’s hard to take that first step, but it gets easier each time.

Each time you overcome fear and do something new, you get stronger and stronger. You have the power to change your life in so many ways when you are brave enough to step out of your comfort zone.

Courage is the muscle that helps us move from knowing what's right, to actually doing what's right—and avoiding doing what we know is wrong.
